€20 billion for Siemens A&D

Siemens has been awarded €20 million to build all low-voltage main distribution systems and associated sub-distribution systems for the Dubai International Airport expansion project.

Siemens Automation and Drives

(A&D) has been awarded approximately €20 million to build all low-voltage main distribution systems and associated sub-distribution systems for the

Dubai International Airport

expansion project.

This is the third individual project contract Siemens has been awarded as part of the expansion plan. In December 2003, Siemens was awarded contracts to build a cargo centre and a baggage handling system.

For Siemens A&D, the new contract represents the biggest single order to date for low-voltage distribution systems, which are produced at Siemens’ plant in Leipzig.

Sivacon distribution systems with ratings of up to 4,000 A will be supplied from the beginning of October 2005. Work on the main and associated sub-distribution systems for the airport, including cabling, is to be completed by the end of 2006.

Dubai International Airport

is to become one of the world’s biggest air traffic hubs. At present, the airport serves around 25 million passengers. Following its expansion, the volume of traffic is expected to increase to as much as 60 million passengers by the year 2010. The operator plans to invest over €3 billion in the expansion effort.
