Contract in print

Support services and construction company Carillion has secured a £230 million contract with News International to provide new print facilities.

Carillion has been appointed to provide three new printing plants at sites in Glasgow, Liverpool and London following a two-stage tender process. The new plants are part of a £600 million investment by News International Newspapers to update its printing facilities to incorporate the latest technology.

The £25 million Glasgow project at EuroCentral Business Park will house two new presses; the £45 million development at Liverpool five presses and the £160 million London project at Broxbourne 12 presses. All three plants are due to be fully operational by the end of 2007.

Carillion’s integrated solution will comprise design, construction, planning supervision and building control consultancy. In addition, Carillion will use its own construction training to create new employment opportunities, particularly at Broxbourne which is close to two Carillion construction training centres in the London area.
