Harris Corporation announced today that it has been awarded a 30-month, $55 million addition to an original five-year, $71 million engineering, manufacture, and development (EMD) program for avionics equipment supporting the US Army’s RAH-66 Comanche helicopter.
According to a statement, the additional work extends the original EMD program awarded in 2000 to the end of 2007, and brings the overall value of the program for Harris to $285 million since 1991.
Harris estimates that its part of the Comanche program could reach $800 million by 2020, if the US Army produces 650 of the stealth helicopters as projected.
Boeing and Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation are the prime contractors for the RAH-66 Comanche program, with Harris providing avionics support.
Under terms of the contract extension, Harris is delivering additional hardware such as cockpit displays, display generator module sets, memory storage units, and fibre optic interface modules for nine of the stealth helicopters, as well as providing integration assets and full qualification testing for various subsystems.
