Drives for China

Brook Hansen Transmissions is to supply three P4 gear units, each of 800kW motor power rating, to form the triple drive for a high duty drift conveyor on a new coal mining site at Jining, No. 3 mine, China. The order has been placed by Continental Conveyors following the success of similar installations at the Raspadskaya mine in Siberia and the Mimosa mine in Mexico.

Future proofing at Courtaulds

Don Controls has just completed a £200,000 control system for Courtaulds European Fibres. The control system, which incorporates 50 book-style VLT 5000 Danfoss drives rated between 1.1 and 7.5kW, will be installed on a new semi-automated fibre processing line to control the spinning, drying and crimping of a new product. Anticipating that Courtaulds may wish to fully automate the line in the future, all the Danfoss drives were supplied fully wired for fitting of Profibus cards and every cubicle in the control panel was wired to an RS485 bus.

Commercial meets military in avionics

As part of the US Air Force’s Pacer CRAG program, Rockwell Collins avionics are being installed in 600 KC-135 tanker aircraft. At the moment Rockwell Collins is supplying 15 installation kits a month and is assisting with installation at eight domestic bases. The programme uses commercial avionics technology adapted to military applications.

Joint venture secures Scottish order

A joint venture between Valvestock and sister company Capper has won a valve contract for multi-site sewage treatment plants in Glasgow. A variety of valves, including plastic valves from Capper, were involved in the order which was won by Valvestock against strong competition.
