Delivery of 250th composite propeller

Dowty recently made delivery of the 250th advanced all-composite propeller for the Lockheed Martin Hercules C-130J military transport aircraft at Dowty Aerospace Propellers.

In accepting the propeller, Bob Price, vice president flying operations and customer support for Lockheed Martin, said ‘They [Dowty] have contributed immensely to our overall programme. We cannot underestimate the importance of this prop to the C-130J’s dramatically improved performance, and its reduced ownership and operating costs.’

The Dowty propeller is matched with the Rolls-Royce/Allison AE2100 engine, and its modular design and uncomplicated systems allow quick and easy installation and maintenance. With fewer parts and strong all-composite blades, the new generation propeller systems are more efficient as well as being quieter and safer. They also offer lower life-cycle costs for operations an increasingly important factor within national defence budgets.
