Direct drive stages use slotless motors

Aerotech’s ADR series of direct drive rotary stages now features the company’s own slotless, brushless DC motors for peak torque performance and zero cogging.

The slotless motors at the heart of Aerotech’s ADR series positioning stages have Neodymium Iron Boron magnets for maximum acceleration. Two piece construction ensures the motor provides the stability of movement needed for high precision. Large diameter, matched-set ABEC-7 angular contact bearings are used to maximise performance with respect to wobble, moment stiffness and rotating friction. A thick-walled, precision-ground shaft further minimises wobble. The large diameter bearings permit payloads to 227kg. The absence of gear trains and mechanical couplings means no position errors are caused by hysteresis, windup and backlash.
