In today’s high-speed systems, it is impossible to observe all of the complex interactions that occur within an industrial process. Even in well-run equipment, hardware and process inefficiencies result in irretrievable production losses.
Now, Binnington Development Corporation claims to have solved the problem with the introduction of its FOCUS-High-speed data acquisition system (HSDA), a monitoring device that captures the simultaneous and sequential interactions in a production process.
Running in parallel with a PLC, the FOCUS-HSDA samples PLC data tables 60 times per second – a 60 fold increase over the standard HMI interval. Using a fiber optic link, each sample is then sent to a standard desktop PC. The captured data can then be used to identify and eliminate the unseen flaws in a high speed industrial processes.
One user, Rod Savoy, Millar Western of AB, Canada claims to have realized a 10% increase in throughput with minimal alteration to a machine, resulting in an estimated $15,000 per day return on investment.
