Doosan Power Systems wins first turbine overhaul contract

Energy company Doosan Power Systems has won its first turbine overhaul contract in the UK, for Longannet power plant — the largest Scottish thermal power plant and the third-largest coal power plant in Europe.

The project includes delivery of two 600MW turbo-set combined valve chambers to replace the original ones manufactured by English Electric, with an option for the delivery of another three valve chambers.

The crushed coal combustion plant has been in operation since 1973 and the four production units produce 2,400MWe.

The project will be executed starting from 2012 by Skoda Power, the turbo-generator business unit of Doosan Power Systems.
