DRS Technologies has received a $15.3 million contract to provide Electronic Warfare Instrumented Training Range (EWITR) systems and support services for the Italian Air Force.

DRS Technologies, Inc announced today that it has received a $15.3 million contract to provide Electronic Warfare Instrumented Training Range (EWITR) systems and support services for the Italian Air Force.

The EWITR system, a derivative of the company’s Mobile Threat Radar Simulator (MTRS), will provide the Italian Air Force with threat radar simulators and master control stations for aircrew training and tactics development through the use of modelling and simulation.

According to DRS Technologies, these systems are vital to maintaining realistic training and test operations under simulated combat conditions. In addition to these systems, the DRS will provide spares, logistics support services, training, technical manuals and additional system components.

The $15.3 million award was received by DRS from Teledife, the contracting office of the Italian Ministry of Defence, located in Rome.

Work for this award will be performed by the company’s DRS Training & Control Systems unit in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Product deliveries are expected to begin in July 2005, with logistics support services commencing late in 2005 and continuing for two years.
