Twenty years in the UK was recently celebrated by SMC Pneumatics (UK) with a ceremony and the official opening of the newly extended, £12 million, manufacturing plant and offices in Milton Keynes.
The Crownhill site now comprises 54,000m3 of land, of which 24,000m3 are offices, warehouses and production facilities.
The opening ceremony, performed by Yoshiyuki Takada, founder and president of SMC Corporation of Japan, involved the lowering, pneumatically, of a time capsule containing the history of SMC, sample products and literature.
It was also announced that Eric Mason was retiring after 23 years as managing director of SMC Pneumatics (UK), and that Steve Bangs would be taking over as from 1 June 1998.
The 300 strong guest list included customers, suppliers and local dignitaries, including Mayor Grant Gillingham and MP Brian White.
