Power and transport giant Alstom has won a €180 million contract to provide steam turbine and generator equipment to the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant in
This forms part of a major project to extend the plant life and increase the power output of Oskarshamn. Alstom will supply new internal parts for the modernisation of turbine/generator Unit 3 of the three-unit plant. The turbine/generator set contains one high-pressure steam turbine, three low-pressure steam turbines and one generator.
In addition, Alstom will also carry out dismantling, installation, commissioning and testing of the modernised plant.
An upgrade of the nuclear reactors and the fully integrated design of the retrofitted turbine and generator equipment means the rated electrical power output at the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plant will increase from the current 1200 MW to more than 1450 MW. The project will ensure increased availability of the unit and extend the lifetime of the plant by more than 35 years.
The main installation work will be performed during a planned outage in 2008.
