Electric avenue to a low carbon future

The North American International Auto Show opens its doors to the press today, and electric vehicles are likely to dominate the resulting coverage

Making its debut at the North American Internation Auto show is Electric Avenue, a 37,000-square-foot showcase for electric vehicle technologies from established automotive manufacturers and those innovators hoping to make their mark in a world giving credence to electric vehicles.

Back in the UK, the Environmental Audit Committee today publishes its report on Carbon budgets and is likely to restate Britain’s need to lead by example regarding carbon emissions in order to build international political will to secure a binding climate deal. The report is also likely to sound a reminder that the UK should not miss out on the opportunities offered by a low carbon economy.

In Spain tomorrow, EADS is hosting its annual press conference. Having recently seen the troubled A400M military transport plane make its maiden flight the company will announce its results, including Airbus’ annual order totals.

Military affairs will also be under discussion on Wednesday at ‘The Future Defence Review: Red Teaming a Green Paper’. Hosted by the Royal United Services Institute For Defence & Security Studies, delegates will discuss the context, concepts and conclusions of a green paper the Ministry of Defence is developing in preparation for the defence review after the next general election.
