Electric drive with mechanical simplicity

Leroy Somer has taken the idea of putting variable speed in the terminal box of the motor, looked at the actual needs of markets such as materials handling, mixers, pumps and fans, and come up with a simplified solution.

Varmeca is a motor with some simple but clever circuitry in the terminal box and a large knob on the outside with which to control the speed. Constant torque is available over a speed range of 1:7, and a power factor of close to unity is maintained throughout the whole speed range.
