Engine agreement

Pratt & Whitney will provide its PurePower PW1000G engines for up to 60 new Bombardier CSeries aircraft ordered by Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa has signed a purchase agreement for 30 CSeries model CS100 (formerly C110) single-aisle aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace in a contract worth around $1.53bn (£1.10bn).

The aircraft will be operated by Lufthansa’s subsidiary Swiss International Air Lines. The agreement also includes options on an additional 30 CSeries aircraft.

The Lufthansa Group became the launch customer for the CSeries aircraft family in July 2008 when it signed a Letter of Interest (LOI) for up to 60 aircraft, including the 30 options.

For its part, US engine maker Pratt & Whitney will provide its PurePower PW1000G engines for the Bombardier CSeries aircraft. Each of the Bombardier CSeries aircraft is powered by two of the PW1000G engines.

The announcement marks the second order for the PurePower engines, which also power the Mitsubishi Regional Jet.

Both aircraft are scheduled to enter service in 2013.
