Environmental win for Earth Tech

Barnsley-headquartered Earth Tech has won a top environmental award for the £10m waste treatment facility it developed for the Western Isles Council.

The company picked up the award for ‘Innovation in Design’ at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management 2007 which recognise innovation, dedication and success in recycling and sustainable waste management.

The awards are supported by DEFRA’s Waste Implementation Programme, the Environmental Services Association, the Environment Agency and the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers.

Tony Lewis, Earth Tech’s business development manager for waste management services, said: ‘Finding a solution to the unique waste management problems faced by the Western Isles was a challenge but we’ve got a fantastic team who constantly come up with creative and practical ideas. I’m delighted to have picked this up on Earth Tech’s behalf. It’s a real industry pat on the back.’

At the awards, recycling minister Joan Ruddock commended ‘the high degree of innovation, imagination and enthusiasm shown by the award entries.’ The awards are organised by letsrecycle.com and are in their fourth year.
