Express Power unveils plant plans

Anglo-Dutch energy company Express Power has unveiled plans for a £50m wood biofuel renewable energy plant at Rassau, Blaenau Gwent in Wales

Express Power has been working with Welsh Assembly officials and local authorities to find suitable sites for sustainable energy developments to meet gas in demand with the current supply. The site in the SouthWales valleys was selected due to current deficiencies in power supplied for large-scale industrial users.

The company said the proposed energy plant will bring a multitude of benefits to the local communities of Blaenau Gwent by securing the economic future of the area by boosting the power supply locally.

The plant will generate an annual 160,000 MWh of electricity for Wales from Welsh forestry, recycled wood and wood derivatives. It will also reduce landfill by using waste wood from local from wood recyclers, skip companies, furniture manufacturers and civic amenities sites.
