Your correspondent P Latham is right to observe that the proposed network of London wind turbines is an elegant substitute for electricity pylons that criss-cross the countryside. The point is that in a city, where these sort of pylons are rare, they would be anything but elegant, whatever the best efforts of the designers.
At 40m high and, by necessity, above the level of London's roofs, thousands of these turbines would become the dominant feature of the city. I foresee headlines of the 'City of clothes dryers' variety if this project ever actually got the go-ahead.
