Figures show rise in seasonally adjusted index of production

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show the seasonally adjusted index of production increasing by 0.9 per cent in the third quarter of 2012 compared with the second quarter, following a fall of 0.7 per cent between the first and second quarters.

Manufacturing output increased by 0.9 per cent, mining and quarrying rose by 2.9 per cent, and water and waste management rose by 2.3 per cent. In contrast, the energy sector fell by 2.8 per cent on the quarter.

The seasonally adjusted index of production fell by 2.6 per cent in September 2012 compared with September the previous year. This is the 18th consecutive monthly fall on the same month a year ago.
