The first phase of the offshore wind farm being developed in the Irish Sea by Walney Offshore Windfarms, in which Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has a 25 per cent stake, is now operational.
This means that 51 turbines, with a total installed capacity of 183.6MW, have completed commissioning tests and are now available to generate electricity — adding 46MW to SSE’s total electricity generation capacity.
Construction of the second and final phase of the wind farm, which also comprises 51 turbines with a total installed capacity of 183.6MW, is now under way.
Phase two of the wind farm will be commissioned next year.
