TCT & MM Live to feature full day of seminar sessions for Jewellery industry

Cheshire, UK, 2nd May 2008: Rapid News Publications plc, is pleased to announce an exciting new addition to the forthcoming TCT and Micro Manufacturing events set to be held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry in October 2008.

Taking place on October 22nd, The Technology for Jewellery Seminar Day is a full programme of presentations designed to showcase how groundbreaking Rapid Product Development and Micro Manufacturing technologies can be utilised in the Jewellery and High Value goods sector.

Like all businesses, the Jewellery sector is very competitive, so keeping abreast with new technology is vital. This programme will take designers through the full design-to-market cycle, from effective use of CAD (computer aided design), to prototyping models, casting, micro cutting, milling and welding. The seminars will even demonstrate how to scan life-sized objects in order to capture its geometry in a design.

Duncan Wood, Sales and Marketing Director at Rapid News commented, “We have seen a growing attendance from this sector but we are also aware that there is a reluctance to wholeheartedly embrace these cutting edge technologies from an industry which has such important and traditional craft skills.“

“This day of seminar sessions, supported by the Goldsmiths’ Company and the Jewellery Industry Innovation Centre at BirminghamCityUniversity, will help to establish the benefits that can be achieved by using these technologies in the jewellery sector. Case studies and examples will be given proving that these innovative techniques can make a huge difference to businesses adopting them.”

The day will be chaired by Peter Taylor, Director Technology & Training at the Goldsmiths’ Company and will also feature presentations from Frank Cooper and Gay Penfold of the JICC. A full programme will be announced in the next month.

Peter Taylor commented, “I am delighted to have been asked to Chair this groundbreaking event that illustrates what a serious player the jewellery industry has become in the world of time compression technologies”

Anyone wishing to attend the sessions should register as an exhibition visitor at and during the registration process there will be the opportunity to register for the seminar sessions.
