Fujitsu Microelectronics has introduced its first solid-state fingerprint sensor product, designed for embedded mobile computing systems and physical access authentication systems.
The new MBF110 is the first product to be announced from the newly formed Biometric Sensor Product Group at Fujitsu Microelectronics.
The MBF110 fingerprint sensor features a 300 x 300 pixel sensor array which produces clear 500 DPI resolution fingerprint images. The sensor area is approximately 1.5 cm square, which allows single touch fingerprint authentication for all users.
The sensor, which operates from 3.3 to 5V supplies, also features an ultra-hard patented scratchproof protective coating, an integrated 8-bit flash A/D converter and an 8-bit microprocessor interface. It offers very low operating and standby power consumption of 170mW and 250µW respectively.
Fabricated in Fujitsu’s standard CMOS technology, the new sensor is available in either 80-pin LQFP or 80-pin VSPA packages. The LQFP package offers an industry standard QFP footprint and a thin 1.4mm profile, suitable for integration into laptop computers and other mobile PDA devices.
The VSPA version integrates an integrated stainless steel ground ESD ring to provide exceptional tolerance to electrostatic discharge and ultra-stiff interconnection pins to provide a rugged sensor package to withstand harsh outdoor and automotive application environments.
The MBF110 is pin-to-pin compatible with the Veridicom FPS110 fingerprint sensor.
