The
Molecular Engineering Translational Research Centre(METRC) at Sheffield University has announced a proof-of-concept funding call to support projects that will develop technology using organic materials.
Funds of up to £50,000 will be available to support individual proof-of-concept projects to develop products including solar cells and medical supplies.
The METRC, which is funded by the N8 Research Partnership, will open the call for proposals from partners in industry on 1 September 2009. The centre helps to move technology past the concept phase to highly functional products for use in everyday life.
The funding is designed to support early-stage research between the METRC’s academic members and partners in industry, into areas including home and personal care, medicine and health and energy.
According to the centre, the financial support will allow teams of academic and industrial partners to advance projects to the point at which they can attract more substantial investment to develop the ideas into commercial products.
The centre aims to fund 10 proof-of-concept projects during this call, with all proposals being assessed on their commercial potential by an Industrial Advisory Board.
