Gadget cuts lawns by itself

Lazy gardeners among us will welcome the latest greenfingered gadget to hit the market – the RoboMow, which cuts the lawns all by itself. Developed by Friendly Machines, the machine is programmed to run in straight lines, turning at the end of each run and returning with natural overlap to give a professional striped effect. The grass cuttings are so fine they act as a mulch on the lawn. Two sealed batteries power a PM44 permanent magnet DC motor which was supplied by EDM. The motor is fitted with a customised shaft and drive mounting flange for easy attachment to the mower, and meets the requirement for high power to weight ratio and sturdy industrial use, together with a long brush service life.
