Specifically, the companies will build the West Kowloon terminus approach tunnel and track fan tunnel section of the Guangzhou - Shenzhen - Hong Kong Express Rail Link, which forms part of China’s strategic national express rail network.
Scheduled to be completed in 2015, the contract also calls for the companies to construct a public transport interchange and an extensive footbridge network.
Gammon is currently involved in the West Island Line which, when complete in 2014, will extend the existing Island Line from Sheung Wan to Kennedy Town. Previous railway projects the company has undertaken include the construction of the Tai Wai Maintenance Centre of Ma On Shan Link, the Tseung Kwan O Line extension and the Disneyland Resort Station of the Disneyland Resort Line.
The company is 50 per cent owned by Balfour Beatty and 50 per cent by Jardine Matheson, an Asian trading and manufacturing group. Gammon is Hong Kong’s largest contractor with over 2,500 employees.
