Federal-Mogul Corporation and Taiho Corporation of America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Taiho Kogyo, are to establish a joint venture at an existing Federal-Mogul facility in Gordonsville, TN to produce engine gaskets for global vehicle manufacturers.
Federal-Mogul and Taiho each will own 50% of the joint venture, called TF Global Gaskets LLC (TFGG). TFGG will produce multi-layer steel (MLS) cylinder head gaskets, initially focusing on auto manufacturers in North America.
Cylinder head gaskets provide a seal between the engine block and cylinder head, and are essential to containing combustion gases and cylinder pressure during engine operation.
Taiho Kogyo, founded in 1944, has six plants in Japan that manufacture automotive components including engine bearings and bushings, aluminum die-casting products, precision dies, gaskets, assembly products and other parts. Taiho Corporation of America, based in Tiffin, OH, manufactures and sells bearings and aluminium die-casting components for the US automotive market.
Federal-Mogul is a supplier of automotive components and sub-systems serving OEMs and the aftermarket. Headquartered in Southfield, MI, Federal-Mogul was founded in 1899 and employs 49,000 people in 24 countries.
The joint venture plans to begin shipping components to customers in December 2002.
