General Dynamics provides VoIP for the Pentagon

The US Army has awarded General Dynamics’ Information Technology division a contract modification to design and install a Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) solution for the Pentagon.

The project will upgrade audiovisual systems and provide security equipment. The modification, including VOIP, has a potential value of $18.4m over three years.

Under this award, General Dynamics will continue its Pentagon Renovation (PENREN) modernisation efforts to survey, plan, design, install and implement the information technology (IT) systems and infrastructure for the design/build renovation of the Pentagon.

The Information Technology Systems (ITS) Project Office for PENREN is working with General Dynamics Information Technology and the Defense Information Systems Agency to deliver a carrier-grade multifunction VoIP switching platform for the Pentagon that can support subscriber and network demands of the Pentagon user community. This includes all call processing support, multiple classes of service, priority service, required adjunct and back-office components and continued support for legacy telephony equipment. The latest award also includes work on several other projects for Pentagon tenant organisations.
