Boeing has awarded Goodrich Corporation a contract to provide rescue hoists for the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. The contract, which includes development and production, is worth up to $12 million to Goodrich over the next five years.
According to Mike Gardiner, President of Goodrich’s Power Systems division, ‘This is a major win for our Hoist and Winch team. It is evidence of the positive impact of our Category One translating drum technology.’
Category One technology is a Goodrich innovation allowing for safer operation in unstable environments, particularly because the translating drum can accommodate an unlimited number of fleet angles — the relative angle between the Osprey and the load being hoisted.
For Boeing, the use of an off-the-shelf hoist and winch system adaptable to the unique requirements of the V-22 reduced development time. The translating drum also provides the operator with a lower overall life cycle cost while maintaining high levels of reliability and safety.
