Goodrich Corporation has been awarded a contract by Lear Siegler  for initial production quantities of laser threat warning systems for use on US Army Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters.

Goodrich says this option is the first instalment of a multi-year contract in support of the US Army. The contract is expected to generate approximately $21 million in original equipment sales for Goodrich over three years, with first deliveries beginning in 2006.

The new AN/AVR-2B laser threat warning system design is the next generation of existing Goodrich aircraft protection equipment, which has been deployed on over 1,600 helicopters, including those involved in recent sorties in Iraq.

Smaller and 50% lighter than previous generation systems, Goodrich says the all-weather AN/AVR-2B provides extreme reliability and accuracy in detecting known laser threats.
