Green energy research in Saudi Arabia

The Institut Francais du Petrole (IFP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to collaborate on sustainable energy research.

Under the agreement, the institutions will work together on research programmes and technological developments, focusing particularly on carbon capture, clean fuels, catalysis, polymers and chemical engineering modelling.

In addition to the research, IFP and KAUST will collaborate on graduate education, creating opportunities for exchange students and postdoctoral fellows to be based at IFP or on research projects in the Middle East.

The KAUST campus, located near Rabigh, Saudi Arabia, is set to open in September 2009.
