HFO decommissioning project at Peterhead plant nears end

A £1m project to decommission three heavy fuel oil (HFO) tanks and pipelines no longer used to produce electricity at Peterhead Power Station is now drawing to a close.

The work is being undertaken by decommissioning, demolition and remediation contractor KDC, which was awarded the contract earlier this year.

KDC undertook the final cleaning and removal of a 2.5km underground pipeline between the power station and Tankers Jetty. It was also responsible for the demolition of the tanks for onward recycling at the plant.

Peterhead Power Station — owned and operated by UK energy company SSE — supplies around 9.66 million customers in the UK and Ireland.
