High-speed networks for Raptor

Lockheed Martin has awarded a five-year, $30m follow-on contract to Harris for high-speed, fibre optic network components for the US Air Force’s F-22A Raptor aircraft program.

Harris will also provide the fibre optic lab test equipment and the Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) for the F-22A Raptor, which replaced the F-15 as the air force’s fighter plane.

This contract brings the total value of the program for Harris to more than $280m since 1991.

In addition to the production work, Harris is developing advanced avionics for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, which includes image processing and digital map software, multifunction data links and fibre-optic network interfaces. The F-35 will replace the A-10, the AV-8 Harrier, the F-16 and the F/A-18.
