Parker Aerospace has been selected by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to supply the complete hydraulic system for the new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ).

The hydraulic system is being designed and manufactured by Parker’s Hydraulic Systems Division in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The system is comprised of three independent hydraulic circuits, including engine-driven pumps, electric-driven AC motor pumps, the power transfer unit, reservoirs, filters, accumulators, heat exchangers, and various valves, sensors, and ground connection equipment.

These systems allow the aircraft to operate the flight controls, landing gear, thrust reversers, and various other functions.

The new MRJ will be the first regional jet to use a significant amount of composite materials on its airframe. Approximately 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption compared with current products is expected.

The contract is estimated to generate over $200m for Parker over the life of the program.
