The 113th President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers has been appointed. He is Professor John Spence BSc ARCST MEng PhD DSc FEng FRSE. Spence is a graduate of the Royal College of Science and Technology, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Sheffield. Since 1966 Spence has held various posts in the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Strathclyde, since 1995 he has been Pro Vice-Principal. Spence specialises in structural mechanics and materials behaviour with special interest in pressure vessels and piping.
