INCREASE POWER HANDLING WITH METAL MATRIX MATERIAL

The need for specialist thermal management materials for electronic devices and assemblies is becoming more critical. To help out, AEA Technology aims to allow designers to increase the power handling capacities of such devices while reducing thermal fatigue, mechanical stress and assembly sizes and weight.

Among the several materials developed is HIVOL, a family of metal matrix composites (MMCs), based around aluminium and silicon carbide (AlSiC). Designed for the electronics industry, the material can be cast, machined and plated.
