Infinergy to build Intermet carbon-neutral energy plant

Infinergy has won a contract to create a carbon-neutral energy plant worth more than £1m for Intermet Refractory Products.

The technology — which uses wood pellets rather than fossil fuels to create electricity — is claimed to be the first of its kind and will be used by refractory product company Intermet at its Oughtibridge plant near Sheffield.

Once complete, Intermet will be able to sell 1MW of energy worth £1.2m back to the grid each year.
