Cancellation of a holiday is not normally cause for celebration. But for Rover workers, it may be just that. Volunteers at Rover Oxford have maintained one shift over what would normally be the annual shutdown period, under flexible working arrangements agreed last year, to keep pace with demand for the new 75.

Initial orders seem extremely strong, and if Rover really has achieved BMW build-quality standards, it will have a deserved winner on its hands.

Rover revivals have been predicted many times over the years. But if this time we are seeing a real turning point, then Rover and its suppliers can deservedly break out the champagne.
