An MoD committee will this week decide which bid to recommend for an aircrew training facility for the RAF’s medium support helicopters.

The £125m price covers the capital value of simulators at a greenfield site at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire. Funded by banks through the Private Finance Initiative, the simulators will be operated by the winning contractor but the training will be done by the RAF.

The MoD’s equipment approvals committee meets this week to decide which of three bids to recommend. The winner will be announced on 10 March. The bids are from Crawley-based Thomson Training & Simulation, CAE of Canada and Reflectone of the US, owned by BAe.
