Amoco is drawing up plans for a possible £400m multi-field development in the central North Sea, following its announcement last week of the Appleton Beta discovery 256km east of Aberdeen.

The operator has set up a special project team to look at development options that would use Appleton as a hub. While further drilling will be needed on Appleton to determine recoverable reserves, Amoco already sees the find as significant.

The development plan would take in the nearby Halley field, and more accumulations if the appraisal programme proves these are viable. The development could involve a fixed or floating production platform on Appleton with subsea tiebacks, or even an all-subsea development tied back to the neighbouring Fulmar platform.
