Black & Decker is to contract-out rapid prototyping of products to Sunderland-based Amsys, Europe’s leading commercial selective laser sintering bureau, under a three-year agreement. Amsys’ selective laser sintering and stereolithography processes will be used to make 3D prototypes for pre-production trials and market testing. The partnership will save on development costs and will allow consistency and accuracy for prototypes, said Black & Decker lead engineer Mike Martin (left) pictured with Amsys sales director Dion Griffiths. Amsys has provided Black & Decker with prototypes for its award-winning Quattro combination drill, screwdriver, jigsaw and sander.
