ANSYS has formed a strategic alliance to supply engineering simulation software on the SGI Linux operating system using SGI’s Intel IA-64-based server products.

The deal is intended to allow users of engineering simulation software to run large models on high-performance workstations, and is being billed as offering a cheaper and faster hardware/software combination.

The system will be powered by the Intel IA-64, an Itanium processor designed for scientific and technical computing. ‘We are anticipating a dramatic increase in Ansys performance,’ said Ken Jacobsen, director of Engineering at SGI.
