Up to 500 union members from British Aerospace sites were yesterday due to demonstrate outside the company’s London office to protest at the redundancies of 380 Prestwick employees.

The redundancy notices, issued on Tuesday, followed the cancellation of BAe’s loss-making Jetstream 41 turboprop aircraft. Unions claim BAe has shown a ‘total lack of commitment to try and save these jobs’.

Site convenor Ian Cavena said no other BAe site was under threat.
