Contractors specifying the emergency shutdown system for what is currently the World’s largest petrochemical development have chosen ball valves to control the fuel feed to the main burners.

Opening at the end of 2000, the plant, which is owned by Exxon Chemical Singapore Private Ltd, will have Hindle Ultra-Seal ball valves installed on the fuel feed lines for the burner that heat he process fluid. Forming part of the plant’s emergency shutdown system, the actuated ball valves at the Singapore plant can be automatically closed in an emergency to remove the supply of fuel to the burners.

The valves were chosen by furnace contractors Agra Birwelco, fulfiling Exxon’s specifications, which included fire-safe operation and Ansi class VI shut off rating.
