BBA, the friction products, materials and service group, has confirmed that it intends to sell its friction products division, which makes brake linings.
The division is Europe’s market leader and world number two, but many analysts argue it is no longer a core business for the group.
In an interview with The Engineer, BBA chief executive Roberto Quarta said: `There is no conflict between market expectations and our own view.’ But he added: `Given the quality of the division we’re in no rush to sell.’
Quarta ruled out a joint venture with a brake manufacturer to create the capability to design complete systems. `I don’t envisage a partnership to produce systems because it would make business more cyclical. Our business is currently 70% after-market so is insulated from cyclicality,’ he said.
