An increase in `right-first-time’ blending of high gravity brewing lines has been achieved using Liquidata, from Infrared.

This automates control of the blending process through real time measurement of ABV (Alcohol By Volume) and OG (Original Gravity) in the beer main. The blending station then adjusts the flow valves to keep the blend within the required specification.

During trials, Liquidata readings were compared with laboratory generated reference values for 183 samples, covering 10 different beer types. The results showed that the new measurement method achieved a consistent accuracy of +/-0.04% ABV.

Liquidata is a smart transmitter with a fibre optic sensor and uses infrared technology, which makes the system insensitive to ambient and product temperature, the colour of the beer and the presence of dissolved gases.
