Gas group BG will open a development centre for gas-powered vehicles in the south east before the end of the year.
The centre will become the hub of BG’s effort to market natural gas vehicles in the UK and overseas. `What we’re trying to do is centralise our activities in this area,’ said spokeswoman.
The company is working on cars powered by compressed natural gas and larger vehicles fuelled by liquified natural gas. It is already involved in projects operating NGVs in Brazil and Egypt, and sees Argentina and India as the next most promising markets in the short term.
BG said it expects to see the first NGV cars in the UK within the next three years.
