Detectives are keen to trace the source of 12 brass coils seized in raids on business premises in High Wycombe and the Isle of Wight.

Officers on Operation Mermaid an inquiry into the production and supply of counterfeit money want to know where the coils might have been manufactured, where they may have been stacked before being sold on, and which kinds of business may have sold them.

The brass on the coils is 64.3% copper and 35.7% zinc, which could comply with one of two grades of British Standard CZ107 or CZ108. The width of the brass strip is 28.6mm, and it is 3.1mm deep. Officers on the operation have seized 12 coils, and each of them weigh in excess of 50kg.
