Environmental pressure group Greenpeace, which so successfully campaigned to stop the sinking of the Brent Spar, on Monday stopped the Pacific Horizon from carrying out seismic surveying – the first phase in the exploration for new oil – for oil company Texaco, 180 nautical miles north-east of Rockall. Greenpeace, which opposes the new oil developments in the Atlantic Frontier on the grounds of climate change, claims exploration in the area is unlawful without an environmental assessment
