Rolls-Royce chairman Sir Ralph Robins was one of 300 guests honoured by the Lord Mayor of London at a lunch to celebrate British high achievers in the 20th century. Engineers present included professor Alec Broers, vice-chancellor and emeritus professor of electrical engineering at Cambridge University; Dennis Burrell, chairman of Martin Baker; Sir Arthur Marshall, life president of Marshall of Cambridge; professor Margaret MacKeith, the first woman in the UK to lead an engineering and technology faculty; Alex Moulton, engineer and designer of the hydragas suspension system; and John Shepherd-Barrow, inventor of the bank cash dispenser machine.
