British Midland is to close its Glasgow airport engineering base due to lack of business. A total of 46 staff will lose their jobs.
The company said: ‘The lack of sufficient business in a highly competitive environment has led to uneconomic overheads at the facility, which can no longer be sustained.’
The factory’s main source of work at the airport is for British Midland’s Commuter Saab 340 fleet. This will be transferred to British International Helicopters in Aberdeen and to BM Engineering’s East Midlands Airport base.
The company bought the Glasgow factory from British Regional Airlines in 1997.
