The patent on one of the key building blocks of the internet has been discovered in BT’s archives. The company owns a US patent for `hyperlinks’, the software which allows users to move between pages by clicking on pictures or text. The patent was buried among BT’s 15,000 other global patents. BT is to seek royalties from internet providers for the use of the invention, believed to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
